Kannapolis has two kinds of trees: the 90-year-old willow oaks Cannon Mills planted along the mill-village streets, and the pines left behind the subdivisions built since the Research Campus went in. We handle both.
Kannapolis was built as a company town — Cannon Mills laid out the streets around the plant in the early 1900s and planted them with willow oaks and water oaks that are now the biggest trees in the county. When the mill came down and the North Carolina Research Campus went up in its place, downtown got a new ballpark and a new streetscape, but the neighborhoods around it — the Roxie Street, McLain Road and Centergrove areas, and the mill-village blocks on both sides of the Cabarrus–Rowan line — still sit under those original oaks. Most of the work we do here is keeping the willow oaks healthy and taking down the water oaks that have run out of time.
North and west of downtown, the newer subdivisions off Kannapolis Parkway and Dale Earnhardt Boulevard were cut out of pine stands, and the loblollies left along the back lines are now the tall, leaning storm hazards we see after every wet winter. Kellswater Bridge, Afton Village on the Concord side and the neighborhoods along Lane Street have their share of splitting Bradford pears, too.

Are the old oaks on my mill-village street mine or the city's?
It depends on where the trunk stands. Trees between the sidewalk and the curb are in the public right-of-way and belong to the City of Kannapolis; trees inside your lot line are yours. We check the property pins before quoting, and refer right-of-way trees to the city.
My street is in Rowan County — do you come there?
Yes. Kannapolis straddles the line, and we work the whole city plus Landis, China Grove and the Enochville area on the Rowan side.
How much does it cost to remove a big water oak in Kannapolis?
For a 60- to 80-foot water oak on a small mill-village lot with the house, the neighbor's house and the street all within reach, usually $2,000 to $4,200 rigged down, or $3,000 to $6,500 with a crane from the street. Open-lot removals are less.
Do you handle storm damage in Kannapolis?
